FAQ

  • The International Coach Federation defines coaching as “partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximise their personal (and professional) potential.” Further, I recently asked one of my clients to describe my role as their coach. They said, “helping people to find their own solutions to their deepest concerns, in a safe, calm and engaging atmosphere.” Life coaching can help you when you feel like you can’t find the answers or motivation on your own, and as your coach, you and I will work together with a focus on empowerment, creating change, and moving forward.

  • No. Coaching is not a form of counselling or therapy, and it isn’t a tool to be used in place of either of those things.

Counselling provides help with emotional or psychological matters and tends to focus on healing from the past.

My coaching services are pragmatic and present/future-oriented, focusing on empowerment, creating change and moving forward.

If you are feeling like your mental health is suffering to the point where it is debilitating, then counselling might be a better option - make sure you look for experienced, qualified professionals

However if you are feeling stretched, overwhelmed or stuck in a rut, then coaching is ideally suited to you.

  • I totally understand - and before we start working together, I’ll always try and meet with new clients just so we can get to know each other and build a connection - you feeling assured that I am the coach for you is super important, and I need to feel it too! Before our first coaching session I will send you a questionnaire to help me understand a little more about your goals and what matters most to you, and then during your first session we will talk through your answers and breakdown your goals to start putting a plan in place, and together we will set some small short-term inspired actions for you to get to work on. I’ll send emails in between sessions to add an extra element of support and accountability, and be a reminder that letting yourself fall to the back of the queue is not an option.

  • Yes. Trust is an essential element of coaching, and so all information shared will be held as confidential between you and me.

The only exception to this is in cases where I have serious concerns about your wellbeing and safety or those around you - in these cases; it will mean that I have a responsibility to contact any appropriate authorities to ensure your safety. These situations are extremely rare and not a decision I take lightly. Wherever possible - I would discuss this with you before action is taken.

  • If we need to reschedule your appointment, it’s okay! Please give me as much notice as you can (I know this isn’t always possible). Last minute cancellations or no-shows will “use up” a 30 minute session.

Emergencies and crises are an exception.

  • No. Many of the people I work with have hormone issues such as PMDD, or are going through menopause. But the one thing ALL of my clients (and me!) have in common is the struggle for self-prioritisation.

  • IAPMD has great information about evidence-based PMDD treatments, so I would always signpost you to their web page first. HoweverI am IAPMDalways happy to talk through options with you too (it can feel like a minefield!) from a peer point of view.

Please note that I am not a trained medical professional and so am unable to advise from a medical point of view and you should always consult your Doctor or medical professional before making any changes to medication.
